At The Shaw Centre we offer a good cross section of activities both in the centre and out in the community.  Some activities we have to ask for a contribution towards others are free.

The activities are not set in stone and we are open to any new suggestions.

An example of some of the things we do are:

Monday – In the morning we have percussion with Andy who is a free lance percussionist.  All take part in this and use a range of instruments.  Some original music is played as well as some covers.

In the afternoon it is a choice session and people can potter around, do some craft, write and sit and chat.

Tuesday – This is a busy day with people doing lots of different things.  Sometimes a small group go swimming at Harpurhey Baths, joining friends from different centres for a splashing time.  The two local markets, Harpurhey and Conran St are on and we are frequent visitors to them.

In the afternoon some work on a set craft project whilst others join David taking part in Tai Chi.  This is a calming end to the day.

Wednesday – The group either play “play your cards right”, “deal or no deal” or have a game of 10 pin bowling in the hall

In the afternoon Jane, a professional dance teacher comes in and takes everyone through their moves with a high energy zumba session.  It gets noisy and everyone who takes part enjoys it,

Thursday– is a relatively quiet day.  Some go out to the local market and Asda, others prefer to stay in and play in house bingo.  There is also a quiet time when people can read, listen to audio stories and write.  A few of the group supported by a member of staff go to The Edge Theatre company in Chorlton; they showcase a new performance each year.

In the afternoon it is games time; pool, wii, board games, surfing the internet, the feel is relaxed and fun.  There is also the opportunity to write on the members blog which is published on this website.

Friday – is chill out day. People choose what they want to in the morning, some go out, others go on the computers or just have a chat with their friends.

In the afternoon we have a sing a long with Andy whose enthusiasm is catching or dancing with Jane.  Afterwards a DVD is put on, the choice of what to watch is taken in turns; people often bring one in from home.  For those not wanting to watch TV, there is pool to play and craft.

In addition to the above weekly activities we also do:

Trips to the theatre, meals out, Themed meals, Visits to the cinema, Shopping trips to Manchester and the Trafford Centre.

We have also recently been climbing, canoeing and had a go at archery at Rope Race Climbing centre, Horse riding at sale Equestrian Centre and self defence at EVADE. We are hoping to be able to book more of the above, so keep an eye on The Shaw Centre face book page for further information.

For more information on these, when they are coming up as well as new ventures please keep an eye on the website.

Cheers from all the staff
